Anthony grew up in Athens , in the district of Plato's Academy. He studied History, before reading for a BA in Philosophy, Psychology & Education (Ioannina, 1990). He attended graduate seminars in political philosophy and philosophy of mind (Oxford , 1992), in fine art theory (Leeds, 1993), and received a Ph.D. in philosophy (Leeds , 1995).
He joined the University of Athens in 2009, having previously held academic posts at the Universities of Manchester, York, Leeds, and the University College London. In 2012 he was Visiting Associate Professor at MIT.

Anthony has been a referee for international journals (British Journal for Aesthetics, British Journal for the History of Philosophy, Dialectica, European Journal of Philosophy, Ethical theory and Moral Practice, Mind, Pacific Philosophical Quarterly, Philosophical Papers, Philosophical Quarterly) and has written for several non-academic papers, including Newstatesman (
He is a member of the Aristotelian Society, British Society for Ethical Theory, European Society for Analytic Philosophy, Greek Philosophical Society, and the HUMAINE project of the European Commission Research Programme.
His work on the Philosophy of Emotions received a cover-page review at the Times Literary Supplement.
